Bull Elk Posturing.

Posturing, as it's called, is a rutting behaviour that the bulls engage, we presume, to express their dominance, and to ward off rivals without resorting to actual fighting. No one really knows, it may just be a part of their ritual. Either way, it's pretty darn cool! Bull elk will strut and pose and stomp and walk in that high-legged gait that only a bull elk can do. The raised head and thrust out neck flashes their antler rack and possibly show rival bulls how strong they are, with that massive neck visible. I digitally cloned a small ear tag out of this image. Bull elk photos, posturing, rutting behaviour, Jasper NP, Canada. (Cervus Elaphus)
