Denali from
Breakfast

I
took this image of Denali, Mt McKinley, as I sipped a cup of coffee
at breakfast. The native Athabascan name for the mountain is "Denali",
which has the English translation of "The Great One".
The peak just west and south of Denali is "Sultana", which
literally means "Denali's wife". Another nearby mountain,
Mt Hunter, was originally called 'Begguya', meaning 'child of Denali'.
The current name of that mountain is Mt Foraker. I can think of no stronger
example showing the different relationship the indigenous people share
with the land to our own. We've officially named the mountain after
an ex-president-elect and a Senator from Ohio. What a shame. Denali

I'm
constantly working towards furthering my stock lists, and improving
my portfolio. These images are all of wild subjects, in their natural
environment. Each photo is available for stock use, and photographic
prints, screensavers, note cards or calendars are also available. To
