Lone Tree in
a Forest.

"American
Chestnuts (once) ran from Maine to Florida so thick on the dry ridgetops
of the central Appalachian mountains that when their crowns filled with
creamy-white flowers the mountains appeared to be covered in snow"
(Derrick Jensen, Strangely Like War - a Global Assault of Forests).
The
forests of the Appalachian mountains, decimated and plundered by the
relentless efforts of the US Forest Service and their partners in crime
the big timber corporations, grimly hold tight to life. The rich ecosystems
they supported have been reduced to a tiny fraction of their former
diversity, and are now far more fragile than ever. Balsam Fir, Blood
Mountain forest, North Georgia.
