Lone Caribou
Bull.

A magnificent bull caribou
in the beautiful fall tundra of Alaska. When the bulls shed the velvet
form their antlers (usually late August), the rich blood that has helped
the antlers grow all year long can drench the antlers. I've seen bulls
with their antler rack completely blood red, right after they shed.
This bull posed for my photograph nicely, and I was happy to spend quite
a bit of time hiking across the tundra with him and his small band for
more images. Taken in Denali National Park, Alaska.
