Bison Calf, 'the Tongue'.

I'm not quite sure what this behaviour is about, but it was amusing to watch and photograph. The curious young calf approached us quite closely, and with his mother looming in the background, we needed to be careful to not upset the family. Most young are weaned by late summer, though some nurse for up to 7 months. Bison calf, Custer State Park, South Dakota.
