Bull Elk and his Harem.

This nice young bull elk had just encountered a more dominant bull, and wisely made himself scarce. The fighting during the rut can be extremely fierce between bulls, as they struggle for the right to breed and reproduce with the females. Injuries can be very serious, (even death can occur) and the bulls are then at their most vulnerable to attack by predators, such as wolves. I'm sure this guy will have a great chance to mate in another year or 2. Young bull elk, Jasper National Park, Canada.
