Prairie Dog.

Prairie Dog

Prairie dogs are a vital species in the ecosystem of the North American Great Plains. Once abundant in number, they were an important food source for coyotes and foxes, as well as numerous raptors. Today, less than 1 per cent of prairie dogs and prairie dog habitat remain. The black-footed ferret is one animal that has been decimated largely due to the declining of their food source, prairie dogs. Praire Dog, Custer State Park, South Dakota.
