Pronghorn Antelope Resting.

Pronghorn Antelope, resting, prairie, South Dakota

This male pronghorn antelope was resting out on the prairie when we found him, the soft morning light was perfect for shooting images of him. Pronghorns are not a true antelope, but are actually more closely related to mountain goats. The latin name for these animals literally means "American goat-antelope". Antelope have permanent horns that do not branch, while pronghorns shed the outer sheath every year. Both sexes grow horns, but the horns of the bucks are significantly larger.
