SAFETY: Important safety information for backcountry trekking from the
pages of the national parks services' Wrangell-St. Elias website.
There are no maintained trails in the park, and most access to the
backcountry is via bush plane. Adequate preparation is vital to a
safe and memorable backpacking trip.
Alaska
Department of Fish and Game: The
Alaska Department of Fish and Game's mission is to manage, protect,
maintain, and improve the fish, game and aquatic plant resources of
Alaska. The primary goals are to ensure that Alaska's renewable fish
and wildlife resources and their habitats are conserved and managed
on the sustained yield principle, and the use and development of these
resources are in the best interest of the economy and well-being of
the people of the state
Denali
National Park homepage: Denali's more than 6 million acres
also encompass a complete sub-arctic eco-system with large mammals
such as grizzly bears, wolves, Dall sheep, and moose. The Alaskan
Range runs through its heart, including North America's highest peak,
Mt McKinley. We backpack through much of this terrain, and our experience
in the park helps participants avoid the hazards of thick stands of
alder and willow , raging rivers and to be better prepared for wildlife
encounters. Go straight to the Park's backcountry
travel page here.
The
Nature Conservancy: For over 50 years, the nature conservancy
has worked to protect more than 116 million acres of valuable lands
and waters worldwide, preserving the plants, animals and natural communities
that represent the diversity of life on Earth. Other conservation
agencies we support are the National
Wildlife Federation, the Alaska
Conservation Foundation, and Trust
for Public Land.

Gloria Hopkins: Gloria is a visual artist specializing in oil painting, watercolor, graphite, film photography and computer graphics, in that order. She also writes on the topic of image composition and design with an emphasis on nature photography. Definitely check out her website, and her blog pages for her latest words of wisdom.
